EPIC Institute of science is founded on the desire to enhance skill development in Zambian youths and other interested individuals on a whole different level. This Operational Plan is written to highlight the strategies EPIC Institute of science intends to put in place in its operations and achieve the goal of being a game changer in tertiary education in Zambia and beyond. The developers of EPIC Institute of science understand that for any country to develop, education that is not only proper but also relevant to its country is key. The relevance of any education system is judged by its capacity to provide answers to the arising problems, first in the immediate environment and later to the rest of the world. It is no longer a secret that Zambia needs just that; the tertiary education that is going to answer to her problems in every sector.
It is in the light of the aforementioned that EPIC Institute of science wants to take up the responsibility not only to supplement government‟s effort in providing higher education but to produce exceptionally trained individuals who will be ready to serve in a patriotic manner. As the scene of this world is changing, the need to change the way our human resource is trained cannot be overemphasized. EPIC Institute of science seeks to adapt to the dynamic nature of our society in equipping young men and women, as well as adults to respond to the challenges posed to us by our ever changing world.
EPIC Institute of science will therefore focus on innovation and transformation of ideas into reality for social and economic development. This kind of approach to learning is what we believe Zambia needs. It is to that end, that the establishment of the autonomous, responsive and inclusive learning institution has been necessitated. This is called EPIC Institute of science. The institution once established will seek to solve the following challenges:
1.Lack of correlation between what is taught in universities and what is in the filed
2.Poor teaching methods that are not centered on skill development but just assimilation of knowledge
3.The rapid pace of technological change;
4.The rapid growth of population that threatens among many, food security.
Whereas others may look at the above as far-fetched ideas, we believe it is within reach to put in place an education system that will have desired outcomes. Research and adaptability are a backbone of such relevant education. Universities are key actors in this process. Open and distance learning in Zambia has experienced some modernization in the past decade and EPIC Institute of science is committed to being part of such positive development in Zambia. This of course has been because of the growing population.
This Operational Plan is a commitment from EPIC Institute of science to support and supplement the efforts by the government of Zambia in providing necessary and relevant education to foster national social and economic development.
